The development and adoption of the Aichi Target 8 as a national target addresses the issue of reducing pollution to biodiversity resulting from illegal use or excessive use of inorganic chemicals, gas flare, and dust in agriculture. The pollution destroys biodiversity terrestrial and aqua-ecosystem, harm human and animal health, and other living organisms.
The adoption of the pollution reducing target is expected to provide guidelines to the government to reduce the polluted materials to non-harmful levels. This is critical for ensuring the long-term maintenance of biodiversity and ecosystems.
• The process of developing and preparation of the target was based on participation of experts and relevant stakeholders.
• The target has been qualified by guiding statements for: reducing pollution in soil, marine and fresh water, air to safe levels; development of action plan for ballast water and pollution in the Red Sea Coast;
